At Review Maverick House, we value your time, both at work and in your personal life, ensuring you have the resources and support you need to thrive. During the height of the AIDS epidemic, when people diagnosed with both HIV and substance use disorder found themselves with nowhere to go for treatment and care, we were the first to open our doors. We used what we learned from being the first to develop successful service models we could share with other organizations. “Sometimes I feel so happy that my heart — I feel like I’m having like a big, good pain in my heart,” she said.

The great majority have histories of trauma, chronic substance use, and mental health concerns. When individuals and families are safely housed, they’re much more likely to address their physical and mental health, addictions, and other issues. Our housing stabilization services, including emergency shelter, transitional and permanent housing, and case management, move people off the street as quickly as possible, with as few barriers as possible. We address substance use disorders, co-occurring mental health concerns, HIV/AIDS, Hepatitis C, and other chronic conditions with the education, tools, resources, and ongoing support people need to regain their health, prevent and manage relapse, and maximize their independence. When individuals and families are safely housed, they’re much more likely to address their health, addictions, and other issues.

It’s why the 46-year-old loves her job, working as a harm reduction specialist with individuals experiencing addiction, homelessness, and mental health issues in the area of Mass. and Cass in Boston. We provide high-quality, evidence-based services based on individual needs, offering flexible, strengths-based solutions to people’s biggest challenges. Funds for this grant come from the Boston Foundation’s Permanent Fund for Boston, an endowed pool of funds built over more than a century by generous contributors who want to help the Greater Boston community thrive. The individuals and families we serve are homeless or precariously housed —but their challenges are even more complicated. The great majority have histories of trauma, chronic substance use, and mental health issues. Almost half live with HIV/AIDS, Hepatitis C, and/or other chronic health conditions. The individuals and families who turn to Review Maverick House are unhoused or precariously housed — but their challenges are even more complicated.

  1. On the streets, at our Boston Living Center, and across programs, we work to prevent chronic conditions and overdoses.
  2. When the only option for women who had been designated a danger to themselves or others due to substance use disorders needed a community-based treatment option as an alternative to incarceration, we were there to offer a solution.
  3. Funds for this grant come from the Boston Foundation’s Permanent Fund for Boston, an endowed pool of funds built over more than a century by generous contributors who want to help the Greater Boston community thrive.
  4. Review Maverick House operates various programs throughout Boston, all built on our strongly held belief that no person who is struggling should be asked to do the hardest thing first, on their own, before they are offered the fundamental support they truly need.
  5. For many, Review Maverick House represents the last possibility for hope and the first chance for sustained success in their battles with addiction or illness.
